Can I post from my phone?

Lets try…

Occupy is doing a good thing…

While we’re on the topic of bank fees… I just got a book of special offer checks from Capital One. 0% APR for 12 months. Nowhere on anything in the envelope do they mention that there will be a transaction fee other than the statement “All transaction fees disclosed will apply, but may be waived by Capital One, without losing our rights to impose those fees in the future”. Now I have no interest in using these checks but I was curious so I called. Yes, there is a 2% transaction fee. Or she offered me no transaction fee but 9.9% APR… Bastards. Think it’s time to rip up my Capital One card…

How to get random Apps on your Kindle Fire

I figured out an easy way to get random apps that aren’t available for the Kindle fire installed. Install Astro Explorer on your phone or other Android device. Use it to backup whatever App you want to get to your Fire (obviously you have to install it on your phone first). Use Astro Explorer to navigate to your downloads directory then the apps directory inside. There you’ll find the apk you need. Long push it and select send. Select your e-mail app and e-mail it to yourself. Get the mail on your Kindle Fire and save the attachment. Use a file manager on your Kindle fire and find the file you saved. Location will vary depending on your e-mail app but with enhanced mail, it will be in the root of your filesystem. Click to install… Now I suggest the first App you install is dropbox then you can simplify the process – when you long click on the backed up app, send it to dropbox…

Now to find a browser that works well with mint.com – silk doesn’t, dolphin hd doesn’t and neither does Maxthon. Guess I’ll try FireFox next :)

Oh and of course Apps you install the above way you’ll need to update w/ the same process. And of course I make no promises that any random App will work on your Fire…

When you update your themes, make sure you make a backup first!

Yesterday, I updated www.betsysbabyservices.com. First step was to update all the plugins and themes. When I updated her theme, it simply deleted and wrote over the directories :( This deleted the custom banner images she had and I unfortunately did not have a backup :( I was able to recover tho – I found compressed versions of the images in the inetpub/temp directory which I eventually figured out I could uncompress using 7-zip after renaming them from image.jpg to image.jpg.gzip. Save yourself the hassle tho and backup first!

Just updated to the latest version of WordPress! 3.2.1!

I guess I really should post something here occasionally :) Mainly I use this as a staging server for www.betsysbabyservices.com which I updated yesterday as well.
